American Airlines will once again be treating passengers as guest with free meals in economy class on long haul US domestic flights. These free meals will be served on selected flights on the trans-continental service using the Airbus A321IT fleet of aircraft.
A total of 4 different meals will begin to be served on flights starting May 1st of this year. The meal selections are broken down into either breakfast or lunch box meals.
The two breakfast meals will be served on the morning flights while the two lunch meals will be served in the afternoon and early evening flights.
The breakfast box is similar to a continental breakfast with bagels, jelly, cream cheese, yogurt, granola, muffins and fruit to select from.
The box lunch has two type of wraps to select from include chicken and what appears to be vegetable. Each box meal will also have a bag of kettle chips and a sweet snack of either a brownie or a cookie.
For the vegetarians on board the flights, they can choose a box meal of fruits and cheeses to enjoy.
The US transcontinental flights that will be serving these new meals in economy class include the flights between Los Angeles and New York along with the San Francisco and New York connections.
Other major airlines that are serving meals in economy class include Delta Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines. The only major US airline not to bring back the free meals in economy class so far is United Airlines. That should change once travelers begin to use the airlines with free meals that have the same cost as a flight without a meal. Being appreciated does matter.
